The One Simple Change That Cleared My Hormonal Acne
After years of struggle, I finally discovered this one simple change that cleared my hormonal acne.
From a girl who has quite literally tried it all, let me tell you how I easily cleared my skin after years of breakouts, and how you can do the same!
Spoiler alert – it doesn’t involve spending $1000s on skincare or supplements!
How I Easily Cleared My Hormonal Acne
First of all, let me start by saying that my skin has NEVER been good, but the disaster you’re seeing in these before photos all happened a few months after I went off the birth control pill. My hormones were a mess and it showed.
I tried everything. Every single hormone balancing trick. All the supplements. Herbal remedies. Dandelion tea. Red light. Castor Oil packs… The list goes on and on.
It took over a year of me crying in the mirror, wondering why nothing was working, why my acne wouldn’t budge… before it started to clear.
Here’s what FINALLY worked for me, and I hope it can help you too!
#1: Elimination Diet
I’ve always been a “healthy eater”. I rarely ate processed foods, cut out seed oils, no dairy, was vegan, etc… pretty much all the “mainstream” ways of eating that are sold as acne banishing, I tried…
But I only noticed a huge improvement when I started to eat low-carb and minimize foods that spike my blood sugar (so that meant all breads, pastas, potatoes, fruit, sugar, alcohol etc.) I have a sweet tooth, am addicted to fruit, and make the best sourdough bread, so this was REALLY HARD! But it got easier to stick with once I started seeing my skin clear up.
So what do I eat now? I’ve found that my skin is on it’s best behaviour when 99% of my meals are simply ground beef and cauliflower rice. It’s a low carb, high protein, super filling meal that I also think tastes really good. I add some salt, and occasionally herbs, avocado or no-sugar added ketchup, to keep things interesting.
I hope to slowly reintroduce other foods, and see what does and doesn’t agree with my skin. But for now, I’d highly suggest a minimal, elimination style diet, until your skin clears. Then add back 1 food item at a time, and see how your skin reacts.
#2: Ancestral Skincare
As with all the detox remedies, I also spent $1000s on skincare. Some even came highly recommended to me from naturopaths and dermatologists. But even the most “gentle” of cleansers only made my skin worse. In addition to the acne, my skin became inflamed, red, irritated and extremely painful.
So instead of fighting my skin, I took a step back and started trusting my body knew how to heal itself, and things turned around.
I swapped my face wash for a gentle oil cleanser and applied a small amount of tallow whip every day. And that’s it! No 7 step skincare routine needed. It’s cheap, non-toxic and WAY more effective. My acne started to subside and the ones that remained were significantly less red and inflamed.
#3: Minimizing Stress
If you had asked me whether I was stressed, I would have told you no. Everything was pretty comfortable in my life, but looking back, I had some underly emotional woes that were absolutely putting my body into a state of stress. I noticed when I turned to God and started trusting Him, and gave up my sinful way of life, that I felt so much more peace, and that immediately showed on my skin.
So I’d ask yourself whether there is something in your life that doesn’t sit right with your soul and see if you can change that. It will be worth it in so many other ways, but I have a feeling your skin will benefit too, just like mine did.
This One Simple Change Cleared My Hormonal Acne
And that’s all there is to it. Turns out simplifying my life was all it really took to finally clear my hormonal acne. Sometimes less really is more!
