These Honey BBQ Chicken Kebabs are super simple and quick to make. Juicy and full of flavour, it’s easy to see why this is one of my favourite grill recipes.

I love serving these kebabs with a salad and roasted potatoes to make the perfect summer meal. Great for the whole family, or up the serving size to please guests at your next party or summer cookout.

You’re going to love these Honey BBQ Chicken Kebabs.

The sauce is great with just chicken, or you can add other goodies to the kebab skewers as well. Some of my favourite additions are red onions, peppers, zucchini, or the best – pineapple. Side note: If you love grilled pineapple kebabs, then you should also try out my favourite Hawaiian Chicken Pineapple Kebabs recipe.

Honey BBQ Chicken Kebabs Recipe

This is a really easy recipe that anyone can do! Start off by creating the marinade, using your favourite store bought barbecue sauce and adding in a few other ingredients to take it up a notch (like onions, garlic, honey and dijon mustard).

Then chop chicken breasts into bite size cubes and place them, along with the sauce, into a ziploc bag or sealed tupperware container. Be sure to reserve a small portion of the sauce to serve with the cooked chicken later (trust me – it’s so delicious!)

Leave the chicken in your fridge to marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight. Be sure shake to mix every few hours so the chicken is evenly coated in the sauce.

Once you’re ready to cook, pre-heat the grill and start adding the marinated chicken to skewers. I love using these flat wooden skewers because the chicken is easier to rotate.

Cook, rotating every few minutes, until the chicken is white in the middle and crispy on the edges, with an internal temperature of 165F (this takes my barbecue about 16 minutes at 400F). Serve with the reserved sauce and a side of salad, rice or roasted potatoes.

Meal Prep This Recipe

If you love this recipe as much as I do, then you might want to try preparing a few extra batches ahead of time. Once you’ve made the sauce and sliced the chicken, pop them into a bag or container. Leave in the freezer for up to 1 month. When ready to eat, simply take out of the freezer and allow to defrost in the refrigerator over night. The next day, add chickens to skewers and grill away. This makes for a super quick meal, perfect for busy summer nights.

Course: Main Course
Cuisine: American
Keyword: BBQ, Chicken, Grill, Kebabs
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp ginger minced
  • 2 chicken breasts boneless skinless

Instructions

  • Start by heating olive oil in a saucepan on medium heat, along with the onion and garlic. Cook for 4 minutes, then stir in remaining ingredients (except chicken). Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool for at least 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, cut chicken into 1-2 inch cubes and place into a plastic bag or tupperware with 2/3 of the sauce. Shake to coat. Reserve the other 1/3 to have when serving.
  • At this point you can pop in your refrigerator to marinate overnight, or you can place in the freezer and store for 2-3 months until ready to use (let defrost overnight in the fridge if frozen before cooking).
  • Place chicken on skewers and cook until internal temperature reaches 165F. This takes my BBQ about 16 minutes at 400F, rotating every few minutes. Serve with reserved sauce.

Notes

Notes: Use your favourite store bought BBQ sauce. I used Sweet Baby Rays.
Meal Prep: I have found success pre-making the chicken marinated in sauce and popping in the freezer for a few weeks before grilling. If you like this recipe, it might be worth it to make a few extra batches and keep frozen for easy summer meals when you’re in a hurry. Just be sure to let defrost overnight in the fridge beforehand.
