Easy Homemade Pizza Pockets From Scratch
Whip up homemade pizza pockets for a quick, healthier lunch or snack. Freeze ahead for ultimate convenience. Ready in 2 mins!
You are going to LOVE these homemade pizza pockets. They’re a much healthier alternative to store bought ones, plus you’ll be saving money too. They’re great to make in bulk and store in the freezer for up to 3 months. This is one of my husbands favourite snacks now, and your kids will love them too.
Easy Homemade Pizza Pockets From Scratch
Ingredients:
1 ball pizza dough (store bought, or use my sourdough pizza dough recipe here)
1/2 cup pizza sauce
1 cup mozzarella cheese, grated
1/2 cup pepperoni
1 egg (for egg wash)
Optional:
You can also include any other pizza toppings that you love inside these pizza pockets, such as:
- Sautéed mushrooms, green pepper, red onion, olives
- Cooked ground beef and barbecue sauce
- Pineapple and sliced ham
The options are endless, so have fun with this!
Pizza Pocket Instructions:
Step 1:
Preheat oven to 425 F.
Step 2:
Roll out pizza dough on a lightly floured surface until it is about 1/4 inch thick.
Step 3:
Cut into desired shapes. You can use a cookie cutter to make circles, or cut into rectangles.
Step 4:
On half of the dough, spread a bit of sauce, cheese and toppings, leaving space around the edges.
Step 5:
Cover with another dough piece and seal the edges, using a bit of water if necessary. Use a fork to press the edges together.
Step 6:
Press some holes into the top of the pizza pocket with a fork.
Step 7:
Whisk 1 egg and gently brush tops of each pizza pocket with this egg wash.
Step 8:
Bake on a parchment lined baking sheet for 20-25 minutes until dough is crisp and golden. (Baking time varies depending on how big you made your pizza pockets!)
Freezing this recipe:
You can also freeze these pizza pockets for up to 3 months. Make sure to freeze them after you have baked them, and allowed to full cool down.
You can either freeze in separate freezer bags, or freeze first on a baking tray, separated, until frozen, then place together in one large container.
When you’re ready to enjoy, you don’t need to worry about defrosting them. You can reheat them right from frozen in the microwave for 2-4 minutes or in the oven for 20 minutes at 425° F.

If you make the pizza pockets into small circles about 4 inches wide, then a standard pizza dough should provide you with 10 pizza pockets. I love to make a few batches of this so that I have plenty in the freezer, so feel free to double or triple this recipe! Â Freezing this recipe:
